50 Cent talks “Before I Self Destruct” Album

50 CentAfter frequent changes and push-backs, 50 Cent’s fourth studio album, Before I Self Destruct, will finally be released. Unlike any previous album from 50, he has had trouble building a solid buzz for the album.

Initially, the album was supposed to have been released last fall. The album’s lead single, “Get Up,” began with significant buzz, but quickly fizzled away. For the first time in 50 Cent’s career, he was having trouble coming up with a hit single. Because of this, the album was pushed back until this year.

A second single, “I Get it In,” was released in March of this year, but it was criticized for sounding like his 2005 hit, “Just A Lil’ Bit.” Back in January, a song leaked entitled, “Do What It Do.” The song featured R. Kelly, which came as a surprise to many seeing how 50 Cent constantly disses him.

Just recently, a new 50 Cent song, entitled “Baby By Me,” leaked. The new song features Ne-Yo and it has built up some buzz. What has really kept 50 Cent a float during this tough time in his career has been his mixtape onslaught. Such songs as “OK, You’re Right” and “Flight 187” have kept 50’s name fairly popular.

Aside from the collaborations with R. Kelly and Ne-Yo, 50 Cent said that he and Eminem record a song called “Psycho.” Other than those guest spots, 50 said not to expect too many guest appearances. For production work, 50 stated that Dr. Dre has done four songs for the album.

50 Cent’s Before I Self Destruct will be released on November 17, 2009 on Shady/Aftermath/Interscope Records.
