Mystikal is set to make His Return

19 Jan

Ten years ago, Mystikal was preparing to reach the height of his career. For years, he had been one of the most faithful members of Master P’s No Limit crew. But, as 2000 neared, the popularity of P’s music fell off and Mystikal decided to leave the label. Branching out on his own, he prepared his most-notable album, Let’s Get Ready. Led by the single, “Danger (Been So Long),” featuring Nivea, he became one of the biggest rappers on the planet.

The time Mystikal spent at the top of the hip hop game was very short. Much like the recent run of Gucci Mane, Mystikal went from being written off as another man who should have stayed on the streets to a rapper in high demand. He collaborated with most of the top acts in the game during that time period. During the 2000-2001 time period in hip hop, Mystikal had the game on lock and no one can take that from him.

Hot off of the success of his previous effort, Mystikal returned in 2001 with his next album, Tarantula. The album was hyped as his best album yet. Late in 2001, he released the first single, which was a hit, in “Bouncin’ Back (Bumpin’ Me Against the Wall).” The song was a hit, but not along the lines of the hits from his previous albums. Also, he was unable to find a follow-up single that could compare to his previous hits. Once “Bouncin’ Back” fell from the radio waves, so did any news about Mystikal.

The following year, Mystikal returned to the scene for a little while when Ludacris released his hit single, “Move B*tch,” in which Mystikal rapped the second verse. After the release of the single, Mystikal made more headlines, but not for his music. In late 2002, it was revealed that he had been brought up on sexual battery and extortion charges. Early in 2003, he pleaded not guilty, but he lost the case.

For the past six years, Mystikal has been in the Louisiana State Prison System serving his time. Now, Mystikal has been released. The hip hop world is much different in 2010 than it was when he was forced to leave it in 2002. No longer are the voices of Nelly and Eminem prominent on radio and Mystikal is a distant memory, himself. While the other artists may be happy that they are out of the limelight, Mystikal has plans of returning to the game.

Despite the fact that he is nearing 40 years of age, Mystikal plans to release a new album this year that will change things up. Following this, he plans to begin releasing an album a year, the way that he was during his peak.
