Ludacris sets “Battle of the Sexes” for February release

4 Jan

Originally, Battle of the Sexes was supposed to be a collaboration album between Ludacris and his longtime partner in rhyme, Shawnna. For years, she had been a member of his DTP Records and crew. In 2007, there were rumors that stated that she had left the label. Those rumors were denied by Ludacris and he announced a collaboration album to come in 2008 between the two of them.

Together, Ludacris and Shawnna recorded for this new album. In between the time that he recorded for this album, Luda also worked on his Theater of the Mind album. His work on this album in 2008 and early 2009 became limited when he began promoting his solo album. In mid-2009, he was able to get back into the studio with Shawnna and they recorded a few more tracks.

Beginning in the fall of 2009, they began recording music at a rapid rate to release the album before the end of the year. It appeared that the album would make its December deadline when it was revealed that Shawnna had plans of leaving DTP for T-Pain’s Nappy Boy label. When these rumors first started, Ludacris denied them again. He said that he and Shawnna have been working on the album for the past few months and there was no chance of her leaving.

Before the end of November, it was revealed that Shawnna was indeed leaving DTP. It was because of that why she was dropped from the album. Now set for a 2010 release, Ludacris re-worked the album, making it into his seventh studio album. For this new album, with the same title, Ludacris has worked with Gucci Mane, Lil’ Kim, Ne-Yo, Monica, T-Pain, Shawnna, and Nicki Minaj.

Initially, the album was set for a December 2009 release, but now Battle of the Sexes will see its release on February 23, 2010. This album will come as a release on DTP Records and Def Jam.
