Kanye West prepares for a Big Comeback

24 Dec

The past few years have been a wild ride for Kanye West. He went from being a producer with a dream to being an in-house producer for Roc-A-Fella Records. By 2004, he was the CEO of his own label, GOOD Music and he was one of rap’s biggest stars. Every album that he released was met with critical acclaim.

Along the way, Kanye West became one of the more outspoken members of the hip hop community. The aims of his rhymes were to raise awareness to the issues that plague the black community day in and day out. When Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005 and there was a lukewarm response from the government, Kanye West said that the president at the time, George W. Bush did not care about black people.

In the time since that statement was made, it has become a phrase within the black community. It was said a lot during the 2008 Presidential Election, mainly by those who supported Barack Obama. Most of the time, the comments that Kanye West make are agreed with. He has said some crazy things, but he was never really out of line. Some say that he was wrong for what he said about President Bush, but given his policies, he was right.

On the night of September 14, 2009, Kanye West could have not been more wrong. He had taken a break from recording his fifth studio album to attend the MTV Video Music Awards. The award for Best Female Video was up and Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” video had been nominated. Anyone who watched the video knows that it took a lot of time and a lot of effort to do a video like the video for that song. It was just assumed that Beyonce was going to take the award home.

But, when the winner was announced, Taylor Swift won the award. Fans of Beyonce were upset and black radio was preparing to air MTV and the Video Music Awards out the next day, but what ended up happening was Kanye West taking things too far. Once Swift went up to accept the award, West takes the microphone from her and says that Beyonce not only had the best video of the year, but one of the best videos of all-time.

He completely disrespected Swift and she ended up going backstage to cry. The statement that he made could have not been further from the truth. But, there is a way to go about doing things and Kanye West went about it the wrong way. There were members of the white community that were still upset about the comments that he had made about Bush. They were ready to bury him this time, because they knew that he had crossed the line.

The media jumped all over Kanye West and he had nothing to do besides take some time off and hide. Ever since September, Kanye has been off to himself recording music. He has not made any comments about any of the ongoing situations. During his break, West has been dissed at a frequent rate by 50 Cent and Jay-Z has been drawn into a feud with Beanie Sigel.

Recently, with his GOOD Music crew, Kanye West performed the lyrics to a new song that is said to be off of his upcoming album. Initially due in June of this year, Kanye West is working on his fifth studio album and it will be released sometime during the spring or summer of 2010.
