Eminem to Release Album on the Same Day as Lil Wayne

25 Nov

Coming into 2009, Lil Wayne and Eminem both had big plans. Wayne already was the biggest hip hop star of 2008 and he had hopes of repeating in 2009. Eminem, on the other hand, had gone five years without releasing an album. All that he wanted to do was make a comeback. Both rappers had plans of releasing two albums this year.

At the very beginning of the year, Lil Wayne released “Prom Queen,” off of his seventh album, Rebirth. He was supposed to release that album, an experimental album, during the first half of the year, then he was to release Tha Carter IV late in 2009. However, Universal Records was not confident in Wayne releasing Rebirth, so it has been pushed back, repeatedly.

Eminem rebuilt himself by appearing on tracks from other artists. This all led to the release of his first single, “We Made You,” off of Relapse. Unlike Lil Wayne, Em scored a hit with that single and the label readily released his album in May. He spent a few months promoting that album before gearing up to release Relapse 2.

It was with that album where Eminem ran into problems. He could not get things together fast enough to release the album in 2009. Instead of giving up on releasing another album this year, he has decided to add a few new tracks to the first Relapse album, re-titling it Relapse: Refill. That release will come on December 22.

Throughout the year of 2009, Lil Wayne has watched his Rebirth album be pushed back. It suddenly became clear that the album may very well be Wayne’s only 2009 release. A few months ago, he said that the album may possibly be paired with the Young Money album to be a double disc. That is not going to happen, but both albums will be released on the same day.

Both Eminem’s Relapse: Refill and Lil Wayne’s Rebirth and We Are Young Money will be released on December 22, 2009.
