Lil Wayne scores big name collaborations for “Rebirth”

Lil Wayne IIAfter a long limbo, it has been confirmed that Lil Wayne will indeed combine his Young Money compilation album and his long-awaited Rebirth. Yes, Lil Wayne will be releasing a double album. To many, this album has been a mystery, but it is close to being solved.

Initially, Rebirth was supposed to have been released before the end of 2009’s second quarter. Fear of runing Lil Wayne’s image by Universal Records saw the album pushed back time and time again. The album was supposed to have been a rock album, but later he said it would be simply “experimental.”

When the New Year bells rang, “Prom Queen” was released to the radio. Coming off of Tha Carter III hits, people expected something more explosive from Lil Wayne. Once that single failed to make the mark that Universal wanted, the album was no longer backed the way that it was supposed to have been. First set for an April release, the album was pushed throughout the summer.

After the release of Rebirth, he was supposed to have released Tha Carter IV late in 2009, but the push-backs had the albums set to come on the same day at one point. Wayne did say that he had completed the experimental album and that he was going to focus on the “regular Wayne album.” The recent prison sentence from Lil Wayne forced that album to be released sometime next year. Now, he has decided to go back to work on Rebirth.

Now that he has all of the details in place, Lil Wayne has decided to do some tweaking to Rebirth. The album was complete, but it lacked big-name collaborations. Now, Wayne has gone back and taken Lenny Kravitz, Fall Out Boy, and Travis Barker for the “experimental” disc. Still, production comes from the likes of Cool & Dre, but he does have some lesser-known names working on the album.

The other disc, originally a collaboration album with Young Money, will feature collaborations from Drake, Jae Millz, Nicki Minaj, Lloyd, and Mack Maine. The Young Money disc will feature the hit single, “Every Girl,” and “Prom Queen” will be featured on the Rebirth disc. Drake will make appearances on both discs of the album.

In spite of all of the release date rumors, the double-disc Rebirth album will be released on December 15, 2009 on Young Money, Cash Money, and Universal Records.
