Jay-Z killed Auto-Tune, but gave birth to Something Else

23 Oct

Jay-ZDuring Jay-Z’s time off, the auto-tune really took over the rap game. Ever since he had come into the game, T-Pain had used it, but after collaborations with Kanye West and Lil Wayne, they began using it, too.

Soon, it spread and rappers such as 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Ron Browz, Young Jeezy, Nas, and Ja Rule were all featuring the machine along with their vocals. The first version of Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3 was rumored to be filled with auto-tune.

Jay-Z’s album was handled by Kanye West around the same time that he did his R&B-themed album, 808s & Heartbreak. Kanye’s album was filled with auto-tune, along with all of his other productions. Some say that after listening to the album, Jay hated it and scrapped the entire thing.

In June, Jay-Z officially returned to the game. At this point, everybody in the game was using the auto-tune. Leave it to Jay-Z to be different. For his eleventh album, The Blueprint 3, he released his first single, “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-tune).” The song did a lot to hurt a lot of people’s upcoming releases and even played with T-Pain’s mind.

But, now Jay-Z has officially killed the respect of an artist that uses the auto-tune. Being a trend setter, Jay-Z has already started something else. Right now, it is not so obvious, but he needs another death of… single to end this.

His album, The Blueprint 3 came as the third album in his Blueprint series. Fat Joe’s recent album, Jealous Ones Still Envy, Pt. II, is the sequel to his 2001 album, Jealous Ones Still Envy. Aside from Fat Joe, Raekwon released his Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… Pt. II album, a sequel to his 1995 debut. Also, Ja Rule is preparing to release Venni Vetti Vecci 2010, the sequel to his 1999 debut album, Venni Vetti Vecci.

After those releases, of course will come Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV. Slowly, but surely, every rapper in the game will be releasing these sequel albums. Already, there are going to be five rappers with these types of albums. After them, more rappers will be getting into this. All of 2009’s fall hip hop releases have been sequels.

Who will be the rapper to release “Death of Album Sequels”?
