Eminem was snubbed by MTV

12 Oct

EminemRecently, MTV released their annual “Hottest MCs in the Game” list. The first list took place in 2007 and the countdown quickly gained credibility. The list is not about critical acclaim or lyrical ability, it is about who is hot.

This year, many rappers were hot, but the most notable had to be Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Drake, Gucci Mane, Eminem, and Raekwon. For some reason, MTV did not feel that Eminem deserved to make their list. Many other rappers have spoken out against the countdown and the list immediately lost its credibility.

What else could it be besides a snub towards Eminem? After taking a five-year break from music, Eminem comes back with a top ten hit with “We Made You” and dominated radio for the entire summer of 2009. Arguably, Em was hotter than Lil Wayne this year because Wayne has yet to release much new music.

Honestly, aside from Jay-Z and Gucci Mane, Eminem is the hottest emcee in the game. His music gets the most airplay, behind Jay’s new music and Gucci Mane’s appearances on such songs as “Obsessed.” The Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon conflict must have played a role in Eminem not making the list.

For those who do not already know, Nick Cannon is president of Teen Nick, a teen-oriented network owned by Viacom. The company, Viacom, also owns MTV, who does the yearly list and Nick Cannon is an executive within the company and has a show on MTV, so he has a powerful voice within the company.

Nick Cannon could have been behind Eminem not making the “Hottest MCs in the Game” list.
