Rick Ross is committed to Def Jam

Rick RossWhen Rick Ross first signed to Def Jam, he was a part of the new regime led by Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter. His debut album was overseen by Jay-Z, so he made sure things were handled for Rick Ross. As a result, his album had the proper promotion, two hit singles, and it certified gold.

In his time at Def Jam, Rick Ross has gone from being another Southern rapper on the label to being possibly the biggest rap act on the label. Ross popularity has grown and the Def Jam roster has shrunk. Jay-Z and his entire Roc-A-Fella camp are gone. Now that they are gone, it was clear who was carrying Def Jam.

The label is falling off and at a fast rate. Def Jam should try to build their remaining talent or hit the free agent market. All of the stars are leaving, now that Jay-Z is gone, it is only a matter of time before Kanye West, Rihanna, and Ne-Yo are also gone. The fact of the matter is, the people that helped them get their start are no longer there.

No matter what those artists do, Rick Ross will remain on the label. His good friend, DJ Khaled is now the CEO of Def Jam South and Rick Ross is the flagship artist. Other artists, such as Ludacris and Young Jeezy remain, but their popularity is waning. They may be slipping, but Rick Ross is only getting bigger as an artist.

Ross is already hard at work on his fourth album and he has an album on the way with Birdman. Also, he has signed his group the Triple Cs to Def Jam. While the other artists are losing faith in Def Jam and are packing their bags, Rick Ross is staying put to prepare for the long haul.
