Can Memphis Bleek build his own “Dynasty”?

23 Sep

Memphis BleekMemphis Bleek was one of the members of Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella “Dynasty.” Bleek was all over Jay-Z’s album The Dynasty: Roc La Familia, too. He even had his own solo track. At that time, it seemed like the Roc-A-Fella dynasty was unstoppable.

Fast forward to now, Roc-A-Fella Records is barely even in existence. Everybody is gone, Amil, Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Memphis Bleek, and even Jay-Z. At one point, the label had expanded to be almost three times this size, but the roster is down to two.

The main mission of the “Dynasty” was to build Memphis Bleek into a star. However, this did not happen, leaving Memph with the “one-hit-away” label. Few people knew, then, that Memphis Bleek had his own label. The exposure of Bleek’s Get Low Records was not granted until he left Roc-A-Fella in 2008.

With a new label deal and a new album in the works, is Memphis Bleek going to build Get Low the same way that Jay-Z did Roc-A-Fella? If Memphis Bleek becomes a hitmaker, will he allow the other artists on his label to also make hits? In the end, will Memphis Bleek and his Get Low Records become the next hip hop dynasty?
