On the Rise: Newz

NewzNewz is in one of the best positions to be in as far as hip hop goes. Before even releasing his debut album, Newz is already the owner of his own record label, Blok Gang, and he has the backing of one of hip hop’s powerplayers with Irv Gotti and Murder Inc.

The Brooklyn rhymer first caught the attention of Irv Gotti in early 2007. Gotti liked Newz so much that he featured him in an episode of his VH1 series, “Gotti’s Way.” Later in 2007, Gotti revealed that he had signed Newz to Murder Inc.

Since being on the label, Newz has recorded with the core members of the Murder Inc. roster and they have accepted him as family. Having Murder Inc. behind him has driven his popularity within the New York metro area.

In 2008, Newz received a big call. Compton rapper, The Game, invited Newz to rap the chorus of a song that he was working on. The end result became The Game’s song, “Nice,” that was featured on the deluxe edition of his LAX album.

In 2009, again, Newz made an appearance on “Gotti’s Way” and he has become the spokesperson, of sorts, for Murder Inc. When it was announced that Ashanti had been dropped from the label and that Lloyd had left, Newz came out and told that those rumors were false.

But, Newz is better at talking about himself, in an interview with TBT: The Magazine, in 2008, he revealed that he was working on his debut album. In a recent interview with SOHH, he informed the site that the title will be Hunting Season.

Appearances on the album are expected to come from Ja Rule, The Game, Jadakiss, and Black Child. No set date has been announced for the album, but that is a great lineup for a person preparing to release their first album. By 2010, Newz could be the new voice of hip hop.
