Will Kanye West leave the Roc?

7 Sep

Kanye WestRoc-A-Fella Records is falling off and has been doing so ever since The Blueprint 2. Despite the lackluster sales and the hype and prestige surrounding Jay-Z, the label has suffered.

The one ray of sunshine for the Roc was Kanye West. Ever since his 2004 debut, he has carried the label. Every album from Kanye produces at least one hit single and he has never done less than platinum.

Even for Roc-A-Fella standards, the last few months have been rough. Outside of the success of Kanye West and Jay-Z, the label has been slipping, terribly. There were rumors of the entire roster being dropped, then in 2008, Jay-Z created Roc Nation. In 2009, Jay-Z left Roc-A-Fella Records for Roc Nation.

The label’s roster now consists of Kanye West and Jadakiss, the rest of the label is gone. Kanye already runs his own label, GOOD Music, and they house such artists as Kid Cudi and Common. Both are highly successful and Kanye West is one of hip hop’s biggest stars.

He is a bit too big to be on a label that has only one other artist. It is possible that West is asorbed into the Def Jam roster and dropping Roc-A-Fella, but the label is coming to a quick end, something needs to be done or the label will simply go defunct.
